There is one thing I believe every vegan should add to their diet
Smoothies are wonderful because
1. Clean up is super easy compared to juicing
Don’t get me wrong juicing is great, and maybe as time passes I’ll begin juicing more. At this point in time with four children to clean up after I just do not want to get into all the clean up that juicing entails. I’m certain there have been some advancements in juicing machines, but right now I love the ease of just plopping everything into the blender, press one button and you’re done. It’s a non intimidating form to add more healthy drinks into your diet.
2. Great way to have a bunch of nutritious fruits and vegetables in one sitting
Let’s be honest sometimes it’s hard to have an abundance of fruits and veggies in one sitting. Maybe avocado and kale don’t really mesh together well in the meal you prepared that day, but they go great together in a shake. You can even add zucchini, spinach, and romaine. One drink can pump up your fruits and veggie intake.
4. No need to have fresh fruits and Veggies
Blending is great because you can just stock up on frozen fruits and veggies in the freezer and you are always able to have a delicious shake. It’s okay if you can’t make it to the supermarket to get some fresh fruits and veggies.
5. Smoothies can easily transform into a great healthy dessert
My husband and I have been making our kids banana ice cream for a long time now. We eventually started making thick smoothies for them as dessert. Strawberries, blueberries, even adding cocoa powder. No need for super sugary processed desserts smoothies can satisfy a sweet tooth while providing nutrients.
4. Perfect for sneaking in veggies some of your picky eaters would never touch
Our kids have been very picky eaters when it comes to eating certain veggies. I began sneaking in veggies to their (#3) dessert shakes.
*My favorite tip I learned years ago is to dice up zucchini and freeze, then add a few pieces to shakes and you will not even taste it. It also does not alter the color of the shakes, meaning you won’t get an “ewww” when your kids see a green shake.
The best way to add smoothies into your diet is to find some recipes to start with. Then try to make just 1 shake a week. No need to buy the most expensive or latest blender. We have a mid range price blender we got from target and it’s been working like a charm for over a year now.
I would highly recommend buying my favorite smoothie recipe book
